Marrakech, a city loved for its old tales and beautiful views, was deeply hurt by a big earthquake last Friday night. This sad event took the lives of more than 600 people, and many others got hurt. Right now, helpers are still looking through the broken buildings, hoping to find people who might still be alive.

Marrakech, which many know for its long history, had a tough night. People who lived there and visitors were scared when buildings started shaking. Many people were seen on the streets late at night because they were too scared to go back inside their homes. Some people shared their stories: one man said he was inside a building when things began falling, and another talked about being woken up by the ground moving.

Some very old and special places in Marrakech, like the Koutoubia Mosque and the old city's red walls, were also hurt. When you see pieces of the famous walls on the streets, it's a sad reminder of how strong nature can be.

The local government said that at least 632 people died. Most of them were in Marrakech and places close to where the earthquake started. Some places are hard to get to, so we still don't know how bad things are in those areas.

The Al Haouz area, known for its pretty views and villages, is now facing many problems. Roads are blocked, and it's hard for helpers to reach people who need them. But trucks with helpful things like blankets are trying to get there.

People from other countries, like Germany's leader Olaf Scholz and India's leader Narendra Modi, have sent kind words and offers to help. This shows that many people around the world care about what's happening in Morocco.

Experts said the earthquake was very strong, and because it started close to the surface, it made more damage. Morocco has had earthquakes before, but this one was one of the biggest.

It's always sad when nature causes harm, especially in places where earthquakes don't happen a lot. As Marrakech starts to fix things and heal, our thoughts are with the people who live there and with the strong spirit of Morocco.
